Exiled to Earth by the Time Lords, the third DOCTOR (Jon Pertwee) felt claustrophobic about being trapped on one tiny planet, but managed to make the best of situation by helping UNIT as its scientific advisor, continuing even after his exile was lifted. He can be rude and patronising, but possesses a charm that helps to inspire devotion among those who work with him… (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS)

BRIGADIER ALISTAIR GORDON LETHBRIDGE-STEWART (Nicholas Courtney) provides much-needed contrast to the Doctor’s flamboyant excesses. Their relationship is not without tension, however, as the Brigadier often seeks military solutions to alien incursions while the Doctor works to ensure a peaceful outcome... (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS) DR ELIZABETH SHAW (Caroline John) came into contact with the Doctor after she was recruited by UNIT. Holding degrees in physics and medicine and being an expert on meteorites, Liz would prove a perfect match for the Doctor’s towering intellect… (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS) SERGEANT JOHN BENTON (John Levene) is the senior NCO of UNIT’s British contingent. The ever-dependable Benton first encountered the Doctor as a corporal during the Cyberman invasion, following which he quickly rose through the UNIT ranks. He would eventually become one of the Doctor’s closest and most trusted friends during his period of exile. JOSEPHINE GRANT (Katy Manning) trained as a spy, and obtained a position in UNIT thanks to the influence of her uncle. The Brigadier, not very enthusiastic about his clumsy new recruit, appointed her as the Doctor’s assistant. Jo’s enthusiasm and sunny disposition soon won her a place in the Doctor’s hearts, and they would develop an extremely close relationship… (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS)

CAPTAIN MIKE YATES (Richard Franklin) was the Brigadier’s number two at UNIT – until he betrayed the organisation through mistaken idealism, believing that ‘Operation Golden Age’ would save mankind. Mike was allowed to resign quietly and went to a meditation centre, but found himself caught up in another alien plot, which would lead to the third Doctor’s regeneration… (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS) The forward-thinking son of an Earth woman, KING PELADON (David Troughton) was initially a reluctant ruler of his world. Having ascended the throne, he was keen to see the planet Peladon join the Galactic Federation – however, there was sabotage afoot, and the Doctor’s help was needed to uncover it… (© BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS) SARAH JANE SMITH (Elisabeth Sladen) is an investigative journalist with Metropolitan magazine. She first encountered the Doctor while investigating the disappearances of a number of government scientists – an investigation that unwittingly led her to Castle Irongron in the middle ages! Dogged and wilful, Sarah Jane would go on to be one of the Doctor’s longest-serving travelling companions and most trusted friends. JEREMY FITZOLIVER (Richard Pearce) is a photographer for Metropolitan magazine, for whom Sarah Jane Smith regularly writes. Outrageously camp and incessantly annoying, Jeremy has been an occasional liability to the Doctor ever since they first met during the Parakon incident.
